Nutrients and Eutrophication

چکیده
Abstract Excess nutrientsfrom fertiliser application, pollution discharge and water regulations outflow through rivers from lands to oceans, seriously impact coastal ecosystems. Terrestrial runoff of waters polluted with nutrients (primarily nitrogen [N] phosphorus [P] compounds) point source/s, such as sewage treatment plant (STP) discharges, diffuse sourcesvia river losses, are having devastating adverse effects in marine ecosystems globally (Carpenter et al., Ecol Appl 8:559–568, 1998; Halpern Science 319:948–952, 2008; Crain Lett 11:1304–1315, Smith Schindler, Trends Evol 24:201–207, 2009). The can be dissolved nitrate Phosphate typically discharged STPs or agricultural a particulate form, often associated soil erosion.

Nutrients and Eutrophication in the Taw Estuary
I. Increased inputs of nutrients to estuaries can lead to undesirable effects associated with eutrophication, including algal blooms, changes in species composition and bottom anoxia. Several estuaries and coastal areasaround the UK have increased nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations, elevated concentrations ofchlorophyll a and changes in algal community composition and...
متن کاملThe characteristics of nutrients and eutrophication in the Pearl River estuary, South China.
In the spring of 1998, 24-h time series and synchronization of vertical profiles of NO(3)-N, NO(2)-N, NH(3)-N, PO(4)-P, chlorophyll a, suspended substance, salinity, temperature and other chemical parameters were taken at 10 stations in the Pearl River estuary in order to analyze the status and characteristics of nutrients and eutrophication. The results indicated that dissolved inorganic nitro...
متن کاملMathematical Modeling and Analysis of Eutrophication of Water Bodies Caused by Nutrients
Abstract. In this paper a non-linear mathematical model is proposed for a qualitative representation of ecosystem dynamics in a eutrophied water body. The model variables are the concentration of nutrients, densities of algal population, zooplankton population, detritus and the concentration of dissolved oxygen. The model consists of five coupled ordinary differential equations. By using the qu...

concept argue that from 9 to 23 percent of the cellular metabolic energy is required for the operation of the sodium pump (3). The question is, then, whether the cell can provide the energy necessary to pump potassium, calcium, magnesium, sugars, and amino acids if it takes 10 percent of the energy to run only one pump? Recently, some alternative hypotheses, often referred to, in general, as th...
متن کاملinternal loads of nutrients in lake chaohu of china: implications for lake eutrophication
this study investigated the impact of internal nitrogen and phosphorus loading on water qualityof lake chaohu, china. results showed that the overall mean concentration of tn and tp in lake water was1.09±0.84 and 0.15±0.84 (sd) mg/l, respectively, indicating lake chaohu was highly eutrophic during thestudy period. mean benthic flux of nh4 +, no3 -, and po4 3- were 3.56±1.52 mg n/m2/d, -0.14±0.4...
